For some of the friends, family and those who knew the late independent convenience store retailer, Raj Aggarwal… doing ‘as Raj would do’ means laughter, fun, letting your hair down and getting together for a good time. Especially if it was a good cause.

In the spirit of throwing virtual arms around everyone in the industry and getting together as a collective, the #DoAsRajWouldDo Facebook page will be hosting a virtual party that key workers and all people in or outside of the convenience retail industry can attend.

Independent Retailer, Sunder Sander said “Raj had that priceless smile and loved dancing 🕺”

Grab your cocktails / mocktails

The Facebook page created by Raj’s family Varun Aggarwal, Ambika Aggarwal and Sunita Aggarwal will stream an hour of music to drink cocktails and mocktails along to. Getting the party started, will be Bestival and Isle of Wight festival resident DJ, ‘Our Girl G’ who promises everything upbeat.

Ambika Aggarwal said “It’s great to see key workers getting together to fundraise for two amazing NHS Projects. The party is an awesome idea and I’m sure Papa would have loved it” 💛💛

Hit that SHARE button on the night

Varun Aggarwal said “The online event live gives everyone who supports the campaign the chance to press the ‘share’ button and help us raise as much awareness and donations as we possibly can respecting current social distancing restrictions. Importantly having fun with industry friends, as dad would do. Looking forward to seeing the comments from supporters in the live chat on the night too.”

Independent Retailer Dee Sedani, will be popping over to the Aggarwal household garden to raise a drink to his friend/brother Raj. Dee said “Whether you are streaming the event on your television sets or your phone – all we ask is that people hit the ‘SHARE’ button and make a donation.”

Difference help so far has made

The campaign has raised just over £30,000+ and hopefully with support from multiple suppliers, trade press and retailers from all facia groups, we can create wider reach and get a lot closer to the £100,000 we need to make a difference for the two hospital charities.

Sunita Aggarwal said “No matter which company you work for. We hope as many people and organisations will make a donation to help us help and thank the hospitals and NHS key workers Raj cared so much for. It has been a very difficult year but we are so looking forward to having something fun to look forward to. Hope to see you there.”

Gareth Aston, CEO Sheffield Hospitals Charity, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the amazing support already given to the #doasRAJWoulddo appeal and the lasting legacy it will create for the NHS. In Sheffield it will go towards an outdoor sanctuary for staff and patients, which is desperately needed after the pandemic to help with their mental health and wellbeing and in Leicester it will go towards the creation of the East Midlands first dedicated children’s hospital. Both of these projects will benefit their respective hospitals for days, weeks, months and decades to come. Benefiting and helping to change the lives of tens of thousands of staff and patients. The campaign has already achieved so much and this is why I would urge everyone to get behind Sunita, the Aggarwal family and everyone involved. Let’s do Raj Proud 🙏”
