FEATURED STORY

NEW YEARS RETAIL-UTIONS

We hope you’ve all had a terrific Christmas, and between this odd week filled with leftover chocolate, passing time and the patient wait for the New Year, we’ve decided to talk about the one very relevant thing- resolutions!

We’ve heard it all before, the usual “this year, I’m going to…”, “Twenty-twenty-something is my year to…” phrases that we always seem to put so much force behind during this time of year.

Of course, you have your usual gym-motivated resolutioners, healthy-lifestyle transitions and the typical ‘New Year, New Me’ types who feel the need to alter themselves completely for the new year- only to slowly fizzle out, much like that impromptu gym membership.

At C-Talk, we’ve compiled a short list to help retailers get the cogs turning a little bit in regards to making resolutions for the New Year.

Retailers could have a look at a variety of different ways in which business could be improved in our sector, such as embracing technology and offering online ordering and delivery options.

Not only would this help to expand the business digitally, but it also increases the meaning of convenience in a convenience store; what could possibly be more convenient than not even having to leave the house to do some quick shopping? Some people don’t have the active lifestyle resolutions set in mind, you know!

In direct correlation with digital expansion, retailers without much social media knowledge may also benefit from enhancing the store’s online presence by engaging with customers online; hosting giveaways, competitions and many more.

With marketing slowly moving off of printed paper and onto lit-up screens, 2024 may be your time as a retailer to fully evolve with it!

In terms of community, retailers can also consider hosting events, supporting local charities, sports teams, or even partnering up with local independent businesses.

Whether you’re new to the sector or don’t usually dabble in engaging with the community at such a large scale, it can’t hurt to start; by showing interest and care for the community you’re a part of, it helps turn your store and your shop into a safe space, therefore undoubtedly giving you an advantage from a business perspective.

As for stock, store owners may benefit greatly from regularly updating and refreshing store inventory, as well as improving signage and labelling in a way that can help customers navigate the store a bit easier.

This time of year is crucial; it’s busy, cold, always rushed and nobody ever seems to have the patience to put things back where they found it.

If you’re a retailer looking to make small changes as opposed to resolutions, this may be the one for you- you don’t have to go big or all out, you could very well just make subtle little tweaks to your New Year’s regime, so long as it helps you and the customers you welcome into your store.

All in all, we love the idea of having a new year’s resolution to benefit both you as a store owner and the shop that you own. May 2024 be a year filled with fun, laughter, booming business and completed retailer resolutions!

Happy New Year, everybody!
