NISA RETAILERS SAVE 175,000 MEALS THROUGH TOO GOOD TO GO

Date

Nisa’s independent retailers are celebrating Stop Food Waste Day by celebrating a Surprise Bag
milestone with 175,000 meals now saved since the relationship with the world’s largest surplus food
app, Too Good To Go began in 2019.

With over 300 stores signed up to the app, the latest figure equates to 477,187 kilograms of CO2e
avoided.

That is equivalent to 83 flight tickets around the world, 1,637 flight tickets from London to Berlin or
the yearly CO2e emissions of 62 UK citizens.

Together the Nisa sites are actively fighting food waste through the free-to-download app and
ensuring the Surprise Bags of food are prevented from being thrown away.

The app presents retailers with a useful tool to drastically reduce the amount of food waste in store
whilst offering a helping hand to the community by sharing cut price products at a time when the
cost of living is a concern for many across the UK.

Stop Food Waste Day is the largest single day of action in the fight against global food waste. Started
in 2017 by Compass Group USA, Stop Food Waste Day is now recognised globally in every corner of
the world as we unite to educate, inspire, and ignite change.

It is estimated 33% of all food produced is wasted every year. That translates to £1 trillion worth of
food annually.

Ian Bacon, Regional Retail Manager at Nisa, said: “Every Nisa store that has so far partnered with
Too Good To Go has given positive feedback about how simple the app is to use and the impact on
the local community.

“I know many of our retailers are really passionate about environmental issues and partnering with
Too Good To Go is a fantastic way of preventing excessive waste of food products.”
Sophie Trueman, Country Director at Too Good To Go UK/IE, added: “Since partnering with Nisa in
2019, their commitment and active involvement have made them a valuable partner in our mission
to reduce food waste. The Nisa team has consistently demonstrated their dedication, enthusiasm,
and provided invaluable support.

“Together, we have successfully saved 175,000 meals to date, a significant achievement in our
efforts to reduce food waste. This milestone reflects our shared commitment to sustainability and
the positive influence businesses can have when working together. With Nisa’s continued support,
we look forward to reaching new milestones and making an even greater impact.”
