TOP 6 ENERGY BILL BEATING TIPS

So we all know the energy strains being put on UK consumers right now, and we won’t get into it. Quite frankly, it’s depressing, and we try to keep things light here at C-Talk. But the worst thing you can do, is act like it doesn’t exist. We’ve seen plenty of retailers worrying about what the future holds in regards to energy price caps rising, so we thought we’d collate some tips on how you can beat the bills.

There is no golden solution, however, these tips might just save you a couple of pounds!

1 – USE AS MUCH NATURAL LIGHT AS POSSIBLE

It’s common for retailers to block out their windows to keep both their store and their stock cool, however, doing so means you will be using much more electric lighting the store in hours where it’s not necessary!

On a day where it isn’t too hot, If possible, try and let as much light into your store. It will reduce the amount of time you have those giant expensive lights on for!

2 – USE ENERGY SAVING LED LIGHTS

Leading on to our next point, when you do have the lighting on, switch to energy saving LED lightbulbs! While there will be an initial investment, doing this can reduce your lighting bills by a whopping 90%!

Not only do they look better, but they save you a ton of money! If that’s not enough incentive to swap out your lights, I don’t know what is!

3 – TURN YOUR AIR-CON 2C HOTTER IN THE SUMMER, 2C WARMER IN THE WINTER

Changing your air-con to less intensive temperatures can be a massive saver. This neat little trick goes unnoticed by the human body, meaning you or your customers will never realise! It also saves you a massive 19% on your heating bills!

A quick tip is that the average shop temperature should be between 19-20C.

4 – TURN OFF NON-PERISHABLE FRIDGES OVERNIGHT

Turn off any fridges holding non-perishable goods overnight! If it’s possible to turn them off and not lose stock, take the extra 2 minutes when closing to do so, it might not seem by much, but it is a massive energy saver and can help you hugely.

5 – INSTALL FRIDGE DOORS

This is another one with a bit of initial investment, but the rewards are more than worth it. Fridge doors not only help the planet, but they also reduce your energy costs massively. Fridge doors trap the cold in, meaning not only your drinks stay cooler, but your bill is cooler too! A bonus point to note is that in my opinion they look bloody cool, like a display case for your soft drinks range!

6 – ELECT AN IN-STORE ENERGY CHAMPION

For those with multiple staff, electing a staff member as an ‘energy champion’ can not only engage your staff more, but ensure you do not make energy mistakes! The energy champion can be in charge of tasks such as ensuring all necessary equipment is turned off before closing ensuring no screens are left on overnight etc!

It’s a fantastic way to engage your staff, help the planet and your bills!

Will you be implementing any of these tips? If so, let us know how you get on! We love hearing from retailers here at C-Talk.
